Horn - Paxman 20m "Gosling'
Bought in 2009 with funding from the Gosling Foundation, the 20m double french horn is the flagship of the Paxman range, and is an ideal instrument for the serious musician looking for French horn loan or rental.
Built around the Merewether system which allows the air to flow through the valve section in the same direction on both the F and Bb sides of the instrument, this minimises airflow disruption from the turning rotor and enables characteristic smooth slurring and legato playing on both the F and Bb horns, and when changing between them.
It features independent tuning slides for both sides of the horn. Apart from the obvious benefit of this, it enables the player to add an extension for a manually operated A/stopping valve. The mouth-pipe is fitted with a water key as standard. The thumb lever is easily reversible to stand in either F or Bb.
