OPEN CALL FOR A NEW WORK FOR STRINGS
On 1-2 November 2025 Cherubim Chamber Strings (conductor, Arturo Serna✆) are presenting a concert in Tisbury, Wiltshire.
Cherubim Music Trust is seeking an unperformed* work to be presented within the concert from a composer under 30.
It should be of 5-7’ length and scored for mid-sized string orchestra. The composition may include prerecorded audiophonic material provided it does not require live sound manipuIation. The scoring should not include divisi, but solo passages are acceptable.
*It is acceptable if the piece has received a student performance provided it has not been officially premiered in public.
An award of £600 (& UK mainland travel expenses) will be paid to the chosen composer, who will be expected to produce orchestral parts and an A3 conductor score. The work will be recorded.
The submission should be made as an A4 PDF score. A demo of the music would be helpful. The composer may also send another similar piece of hir own work as an indication of hir style.
The closing date for submissions is 1 August, which is also the date for the composer’s age eligibility.
Any composer resident or studying in the British Isles can apply. The judges are Cherubim Director Michael Maxwell Steer & Deputy Director Arturo Serna.
Submissions will be acknowledged on receipt, and a shortlist published on our website on 1 September. Anyone not included in the shortlist can assume their work has not been selected. We will not be able to give individual feedback, nor to return submissions.
