Toril Azzalini-Machecler

Marimba One 4000

News of a change in the percussion department: Sam Wilson has handed over the Cherubim marimba to new Cherubim awardee Toril Azzalini-Machecler. Toril, a 2018 BBC Young Musician finalist, has appeared with the instrument at a first night of the proms concert, and you can watch the video of that here: YouTube – Toril Azzalini-Machecler.

Toril started playing percussion when he was six. In addition, he plays piano, trombone and plays bass guitar in a rock band with his friends. He is currently finishing Year 11 and took his GCSEs in June. Although Toril would like to pursue a performing career, he is also an avid composer. In his spare time, he goes sailing and climbing.

Here’s hoping for great things to come for both Toril and Sam in the future.

Newsflash: Toril also reached the percussion final of BBC Young Musician 2020. Watch his performance here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08f2kfq
