Yijia Cui

Double Bass - Hungarian 3/4 'Gabriel Steer' ¾ size with C extn

Yijia Cui is a freelance orchestral double bassist based in London. Yijia studied under the tutelage of Thomas Martin as a scholarship student at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and graduated in 2022. She has since worked with several professional orchestras including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, English National Ballet, London Mozart Players and the Royal Opera House. 
Yuija has taught bass as part of the ARCO project at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and has shadowed Jo Bradley on the National Children’s Orchestra Under 13s course in 2022 as a placement student. Since November 2019, she have been a part of the production team of String Virtuoso, an online educational platform for double bassists.

Yijia successfully gained a placement on the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House mentorship scheme in October 2022. She has been principal bass of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra. Over the pandemic, Yijia co-founded the platform Bassists with Boobs, a platform dedicated to promoting female and other underrepresented genders in the double bass community. 

She plays the Hungarian double bass loaned by the Cherubim Trust.
