Flute - Powell Conservatory
Grace Callaghan is a third year BMus flute student at the RNCM. She writes ‘My tutors tell me that to progress further it’s vital that I have a flute of a professional standard, but I don’t have the means to buy a better one with my student debt now rising to £69,000.’ So, the Cherubim Trust set about raising the money to buy her the Altus flute she now plays.
Principal flute in the RNCM Wind Orchestra, Grace also plays in their Symphony and Chamber orchestras. Her professor, Laura Jellicoe, writes: ‘Grace is a lovely musician, very suited to an orchestral career. But her very basic instrument put her at a disadvantage, and her family was not in the position to help.’
Grace is currently on placement, coaching at the Junior RNCM, and in a range of community music-making, including school assemblies for Bradford Music Service.
She played a starring role in the Cherubim ‘Crossing Points’ Music Festival in September 2018, when she dazzled the audience with her dexterity and impressive technique.
