Katy Baker is a first study cellist at the Junior Royal Academy of Music where she studies with Alexandra Mackenzie. She has been playing for 8 years having first started learning as part of the Strings Programme at Birmingham Conservatoire. In additions to her studies she is a member of several school, youth and national orchestras including the National Childrens Orchestra of GB, the National Schools Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Music Theatre pit orchestra and the CBSO Youth Orchestra. She was a winner at the Grand Virtuoso Vienna Music Competition in autumn 2019, and was an awardee of the James Langely Memorial Trust also in 2019 as a member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra. Katy is also a talented clarinettist.
Katy is passionate about orchestral and chamber music and during the lockdown in 2020 took part and lead many exciting digital collaborations with performers from all over the world.
The loan of a cello from Cherubim will really help her develop her musical and technical studies over the next few years.
