Flute – Muramatsu 'Deborah Steer'

At the Royal College of Music Octavia is a scholar supported by a Douglas & Hilda Simmonds Award studying flute with Katie Bedford and Kathleen Stevenson.

Octavia took to the flute in 2009, shortly before her 16th birthday, learning with Anna Pyne at home in Dorset. She entered the junior Guildhall School of Music and Drama on a scholarship, to study with Robert Manasse. She was principal flute in the National Youth Orchestra, and has played under the baton of many esteemed conductors, including Vasily Petrenko, John Wilson, Paul Daniel, Sir Antonio Pappano and Gustavo Dudamel. She has since gone on to perform as principal flute with the RCM Philharmonic Orchestra with conductors such as Peter Stark and Michael Seal.
Octavia has played numerous recitals in venues such as the Saville Club in Mayfair and Port Regis School. She has also performed in festivals such as Hagley Music Festival and Salisbury Young Musicians Winners Concert.

She has given concerto performances including the Mozart D Major and the Mozart Flute and Harp. She has recently performed on a CD of works by the British composer, Stephen Dodgson on Naxos.

She is also a private flute teacher, and enjoys working for the RCM Sparks outreach service.
