Benoit Rolland bow

Alfie is a 17 year old violinist enjoying both classical and jazz violin; he also enjoys composing music for ensembles and playing piano.  Alfie currently attends University of Birmingham School and after his A-levels plans to continue his studies at a Conservatoire.  Alfie’s ambition is to become a professional musician, something he has been passionate about since starting violin at age 3.
Alfie is a current member of the CBSO Youth Orchestra and a previous member of National Children’s Orchestra and the Young String’s Project at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire whilst studying at Chethams School of Music.

Studying classical violin with Joshua Fisher from the RAM, jazz violin with Tim Kliphuis and composition with Simon Speare from Junior RCM and Jeffrey Sharkey from RCS Alfie enjoys performing as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
Some of his performance highlights have included playing on stage with the NCO and Nicola Benedetti, being invited to play with Tim Kliphuis Trio at Iford Manor in 2020, playing as a soloist at Newcastle City Hall in 2018 and 2019 and having the opportunity to play with Nigel Kennedy.

Alfie is currently using a Benoit Rolland violin bow loaned to him by the Cherubim Music Trust.

My ambition is to study at a Conservatoire with the aim of becoming a professional violinist.

His teacher writes " Alfie is musically intelligent, attentive and hard working, and it is a great pleasure to see how he can make use of instructions to express his musicality, and he is well on his way to becoming a professional classical musician."
