Adam Field is the third awardee of our ‘Rothermere-Gosling’ Paxman horn.
Adam, who is 16, started playing Tenor Horn aged 9, learning with the Oxted Brass Band, with whom he still regularly plays. He changed to French Horn when he was 11, and he achieved Grade 8 in 2017.
In his old school, Oxted School, he enjoyed playing with many of the school’s ensembles and playing solos in School Concerts. He continues to do so in his new school, Whitgift, in South Croydon, where he started in the Sixth Form, 2018, with a Music Scholarship.
These groups include Chamber Orchestra, “Whitgift 10” (the school’s Brass 10-piece group), Senior Horn Ensemble and Brass Sinfonia. At Whitgift he takes lessons with Emma Roberts. Outside of school, he plays with Surrey County Ensembles, including the Surrey Advanced Brass Ensemble, and has participated in RAM Horn Days. He has performed in concerts organised by the local Robert Bouffler Music Trust.
When not playing the horn, he enjoys teaching the instrument and has a number of beginner horn
