How to give.

A recent report by The National Foundation of Youth Music confirms that years of inadequate funding combined with the cessation of student grants have resulted in a serious situation confronting the future of music training in this country with noticeably fewer students able to learn expensive or unusual instruments.

Existing charities principally offer  money loans to post-graduate musicians as they attempt to enter the profession. The work they do is obviously crucial but trusts such as the Countess of Munster were set up before the current situation became so grim and presumed that they were not lending to a young person already encumbered with a very large student debt. The Cherubim Music Trust was founded in 2001 to raise funds to help remedy this situation.

In our first year of operation we gave four awards, three in the form of direct grants. The young people concerned were obviously delighted, however we now feel that our long term strategy should change. It is therefore Cherubim’s intention to build up a collection of good quality instruments to lend to our musicians. These instruments would be named for the donors, forming a lasting memorial to individual or corporate generosity.

Such a collection would become a carefully managed capital asset for the trust.
NB. Except for the violin family most instruments are not immune to depreciation, but rather as with a vintage car versus an old banger, carefully chosen and well cared for, musical instruments actually hold their value extremely well.

The Cherubim Trust is registered as a grant making charity in order to help gifted young musicians by assisting them to access the instruments they need.

We intend to build up a bank of fine instruments to lend to our students. Why not sponsor a specific instrument which will be engraved with your or your company’s name and receive information of your special musician as they progress with their careers?

- or could you donate that instrument you no longer use to Cherubim? We will find the ideal young player, arrange  the insurance, and if need be, have it expertly repaired. You can be sure that it will go to a very good home.
