Edward Furse – cello

Edward Furse was born in 1982 and currently works as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and teacher. He was awarded a First Class Honours degree in Music from the University of Birmingham and a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music, from which he graduated in 2005. Edward also received the Barber Undergraduate Prize and Postgraduate Scholarship.

Education work includes recitals as part of the Live Music Now! scheme and Edward teaches at King’s College University London on behalf of the Royal Academy of Music. Cherubim is particularly interested in funding Edward’s choice of a Guastalla cello, as it gives us an opportunity to support the rare craft of the modern luthier.

Bruno Gustalla says: “My cellos provide a good alternative to antique ones of a comparable price range. My attitude to making is derived from the wonder I feel for the combination of formal understanding and the sense of constant renewal and liveliness that inspires the makers of the Golden Age. So it is an investigative spirit which animates my work, one which is founded on solid research, experience and craftsmanship.”

Edward is looking for £12,000 to commission this instrument.
